Jury Finds Aaron Dwight Moore Guilty of 2022 Murder of John Williams in Hamden
(New Haven, CT) – New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. announced that a jury in New Haven Superior Court today found Aaron Dwight Moore, age 38, of New Haven, guilty of Murder, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-48 and § 53a-54 and Criminal Use of a Firearm in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-216(a). The Honorable Maureen M. Keegan presided over the jury trial.
In a separate proceeding before the court, Judge Keegan found Moore guilty of Criminal Possession of a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-217(a)(1), Criminal Possession of a Pistol or Revolver in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-217c(a)(1) and Carrying a Pistol or Revolver Without a Permit, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 29-35(a).
According to evidence introduced at trial, Moore and his co-defendant planned and executed a coordinated ambush on victim John Williams, age 38, of Hamden. Williams was shot multiple times while he was in his vehicle at his grandmother’s home in Hamden on December 18, 2022. Williams succumbed to his injuries shortly after the shooting.
The case was investigated by the Hamden Police Department and was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Gregory L. Borrelli and Assistant State’s Attorney Thomas J. Finnucan, who were assisted by Inspector Jeffrey Cortes.
State’s Attorney Doyle would like to extend his gratitude to the Hamden Police Department, especially Captain Jomo Crawford, Detective Gabe Garcia, and Sergeant Andrew Lipford, for their dedicated investigative efforts, as well to the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection’s Division of Scientific Services, Special Agent David Carney of the New Haven Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Insurance Crime Bureau and the New Haven Police Department for their significant contributions to this case.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 13, 2026 in New Haven Superior Court.
